The provider may ask a few things:
- What is the make and age of the unit?
- What did you see or hear before it failed?
- Is anyone in the home at risk from heat or cold?

What to Ask a Provider

- Are you licensed and insured in this state? A good answer is a clear yes. Ask to see proof.
- What if the first fix does not work? A good answer covers the next step and the price.
Red Flags
Be careful if a provider:
- Will not give a price on paper
- Pushes you to decide on the spot
- Says you must replace, but cannot say why
- Asks for the full payment up front
These are signs to pause and get a second quote. Typical U.S. costs vary a lot by job. A written quote is your strongest protection.
